your blood drips to the dust / from the love i wounded with my kiss / so answer the question / why do you offer me even a fallen crust of the bread you broke / & a drop of your wine, your blood i spilled / why do you want to call me your own / when to you my heart is so cold
o God, i can’t take this anymore / won’t you take this for me? / my head is throbbing from the thorns i pressed into yours / i can’t lift myself, & my lungs scream for more / my veins are open, bleeding my sin & shame to the floor / won’t you take this from me?
the spear i pierced you with / broke through my skin, & confirmed my death / so answer the question / why did you trade your breath for my frailty & foolishness / why do you want to heal my broken spirit / when i traded you for this
my God, cut into me ‘til i’m not numb / my father, forgive me for all i’ve done
o God, i can’t take this anymore / won’t you take this for me? / my head is throbbing from the thorns i pressed into yours / i can’t lift myself, & my lungs scream for more / my heart is broken, bleeding my pain to the floor / won’t you take this from me?
o my strength, you’ve taken this for me / you’ve taken this from me
